2021 Junior Player of the Year and OoM Prizes Awarded
Monday 24th January 2022
Whilst the Junior Maxam Cup at West Cornwall was the focus last Saturday, the prizegiving hosted by CGU Juniors President Matt Tucknott also offered the opportunity to present the prizes for the 2021 Junior Orders of Merit and the Junior Player of the Year.
The latter prize was awarded to Isaac D'Bue (Falmouth) who had a great season in 2021. He kick started in June at the Carlyon Bay hosted Junior County Championship, where he returned two sub-par rounds of 71 to claim the title by 3 shots in a field containing several more fancied juniors. This boost of confidence was then reflected in his season long appearances for both the U16 and U18 County Junior teams. He played in all their matches appearing in a total of 8 singles games and won every single one of them. On the back of his Junior County Championship win he went on to be Cornwall’s representative at the England Golf Boys Champion of Champions at Woodhall Spa.
The U16 Junior Order of Merit Handicap winner for 2021 was James Tucknott (above, West Cornwall) and despite a recent dislocation of a knee James was able to be present and receive his prize. The runner up in this category was Harry Drewett (Falmouth).
The U16 Junior Order of Merit Scratch winner for 2021 was Archie Fox (Falmouth) with clubmate D'Bue runner up.
The main Junior Order of Merit (all ages) winner for 2021 could not be determined outright and therefore the title of winner was shared by - new Junior County Captain - Ethan Tempest (West Cornwall) and Archie Fox.
