SWCGA Seniors Championship 18th - 19th Juky 2021 Ferndown GC

Ferndown, Dorset - hosts the SWCGA Seniors Championship 2021

The Cornwall County Seniors team participating in the SWCGA Seniors Championship at Ferndown GC, Dorset has been named.

Seniors Captain Paul Clahane has selected a new look team for the tournament which takes place on the 19th and 20th July after the 2020 competition was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Reigning County Champion Mark Blaber (Carlyon Bay, above) leads the selections and the team is joined by a recent addition to the county Steve Barns (West Cornwall), who won his opening game for the county against Somerset last week.

The full team is Mark Blaber, Andy Rowe (Looe), Gary Stone (Bude & N Cornwall), Steve Barns, Colin Kitt (China Fleet), Richard Bunch (West Cornwall), Kevin Mula and Charlie Phillips (both Newquay).

The team will play a practice round at Ferndown on Sunday 18th June before the competition proper commences on the Monday with 18 holes of scratch strokeplay, and a further 18 the following day. The Championship doubles up as the qualifying round for the English Seniors County Championship with Clahane due to nominate 6 scoring members of his team from whom the best 5 scores will count. The Seniors County Finals are due to take place at Grange Park GC, Lancashire in early October.

Captain Clahane is optimistic. "With two wins in recent matches we are in a good place. I am in a fortunate position in having options when it comes to team selection and whilst that is a luxury the decision making is not easy. Nevertheless, I think the team we are taking is more than capable of challenging for the county finals spot.
