The St Austell member trio of Gary Johns, Andy Peers and John Walker triumphed in yesterday's Western Morning News Challenge Cup betterball competition at St Austell GC on Day 6 of County Week 2020. On yet another glorious golfing day over 100 players took to the course in the stableford competition with two from 3 scores to count.

Johns Peers and Walker scored an excellent 11 under score to pip clubmates and second placed Kevin Roach, Steve Pill and Steve Humphreys on 81 and long time leaders - also from St Austell - Shaun Channon, James Thomas and Chris Trethewey on 78. Further St Austell influence existed in the fourth placed team of Vice Captain Chris Bailey and Matthew Knowles with Mark Burt (Carlyon Bay) who finished fourth also on 78.

Fifth place was earned by the Perranporth trio of Dave Tregidgo, Paul and Lewis Jackson on 76.

16 counting 2s were made on the day - 13 of them by St Austell members - local knowledge counts all round!
