County Week Programme St Austell September 2020

Wednesday 1st July 2020

As announced last month the CGU will stage its County Championship Meeting at St Austell Golf Club from Monday 7th through to Sunday 13th September 2020.

A County Week Poster is attached below and this outlines the various events taking place. At the top of the list is the Amateur Championship which sees a 36 hole qualifier taking place on Thursday 10th September before the knockout stages commence the following day and culminating in a 36 hole final on the Sunday.

Monday 7th will be the stage for the Seniors & Founders Cups Stablefords with Tuesday hosting the Lawrance Cup in the same format. Wednesday 9th will be the setting for the Royal Cornwall Challenge Cup (Pairs Betterball). Friday 11th will see the reintroduction of a bogey competition which will be played around the Amateur Championship last 32 and last 16 knockout stages. On Saturday 12th the Western Morning News Challenge Cup (3 Man team, 2 scores to count) take place again around the latter stages of the Amateur Championship.

The only county event on Sunday 13th September will be the Amateur Championship Final. The last time the event was staged at St Austell was during its 2011 Centenary Year and the Champion Golfer that week was Tom Fox (then of China Fleet). It is anticpated Fox will be in the field again this year.

Whilst Covid-19 has impacted greatly on the original 2020 schedule, the CGU is delighted to be able to stage these competitions and is very grateful to St Austell GC for its hospitality. The Royal Cornwall Goblets and A & B Team Club Championships - both normally staged as part of County Week  - will not take place this year.

Entries for County Week must all be made and paid for in advance. Entries can be made online or using entry forms also available via the CGU website. Entry fees are detailed on the poster. The CGU remain very cognisant of covid-19 and the relevant restrictions and will react appropriately to ensure the safety of all concerned should conditions change.
