Trevose Win the Maxam Cup

Trevose have won the Maxam Cup after a thrilling day of golf at Newquay yesterday.

After 36 hole both Trevose and Newquay were tied on a 3 over par total of 279 so it was necessary to take the third score total into account which resulted in a Trevose win.

Both teams held a first round lead of 8 shots over the chasing field with Trevose pair Ben Westgate & Richard Ackland firing a 66 adding to the 73 from Steve Davis and Guy Norris. This was matched by the 67 from Newquay pair Carl Phillips & Rob Randell and the 72 by Antony Nash & Jon Hancock.

The wind picked up in the afternoon and Newquay set the challenge with an excellent 66 from Nash & Hancock and 74 from Aaron Stephens and Pete East. Trevose responded with a 69 from Davis and Norris and it was then left for Westgate and Ackland to hole out for a solid 71 to tie and take the trophy on count back.

A delighted Nick Gammon who partnered John Tremain in the team received the trophy.

Individual Winners: 1st Ben Westgate & Richard Ackland (Trevose) 66 + 71 137

2nd Antony Nash & Jon Hancock (Newquay) 72 + 66 138
