Friendly Match against Devon

Cornwall and Devon Draw in Season Opener

Cornwall’s opening friendly against Devon took place on Sunday at Newquay Golf Club.

The morning foursomes saw the Cornwall pairings play some outstanding golf and took the team into lunch 4 matches to 1 up.

The 10 afternoon singles proved to be a much tougher contest with Cornwall winning 2 and halving 3 matches and in a nail biting finish Cornwall needed to hole a 10 foot putt on the last green in the last match to win. Both sides watched as the ball narrowly missed and stayed above ground, leaving the Cornwall and Devon side’s level on 7½ points each at the end of play.

With Devon fielding a very strong side, Cornwall Captain Alan Poole said “It was a very encouraging start to the season” and the Cornwall team now look forward to this years challenges.
