Tom Fox from China Fleet is the new Cornwall Amateur Champion after beating Josh Greenaway (Bowood Park) in a thrilling final which went to after extra holes at St Austell on Saturday.

60 competitors started out last Wednesday in the 36 hole Stroke Play, with 32 players going through to the Match play section starting on Thursday.

Adam Taylor from Perranporth was the top qualifier with a two round total of 139 but he could not reproduce this form the next day losing in the 1st round to local favourite Simon Harper who went on to make the semi final.

The Championship was being held at St Austell in honour of the clubs Centenary year and the course was in excellent condition and provided a stern text of golf throughout the week.

The final on Saturday produced a titanic battle with some great golf from both men. The match was all square at lunch, Fox having been 3 up at one stage but pegged back. The afternoon was just as close but Greenaway looked to have edged ahead at the vital time as he came down the 36th hole 1 up but Fox was not beaten and bravely took the match up the 37th before winning it on the first extra hole.
