Respectable Finish for Hall in Jones Cup

Monday 6th February 2017

Jones Cup Invitational, Georgia

Cornwall and England team member Harry Hall (West Cornwall) finished in a respectable tied 16th position in the Jones Cup Invitational competition played over the weekend at Sea Island, Georgia.

Rounds of 74, 79, and 71 saw 'H' total 224 in a strong 84 man field with winner Braden Thornberry the only player to be under par with his 4 under total of 212.

Hall who represents the University of Nevada and Las Vegas, where he is studying, had mixed fortunes throughout the three round competition which brings together many of the finest amateurs from the United States and abroad.

Hall's first round included two back nine birdies which reduced the deficit caused by 4 bogies on the front half. His second round was to cost him overall as the par 5 14th hole brought a double digit return. Harry immediately demonstrated the bounceback factor though with a birdie 2 at the next hole. During day 3 he returned his best round of the competition, a one under par 71 containing three birdies.

England's other representative David Wicks (Sussex) finished tied 26th on 228.

Past participants in the Jones Cup include a number of current PGA Tour and Ryder Cup stars such as Luke Donald, Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker, Bubba Watson and Frenchman Victor Dubuisson. Past winners include Patrick Reed.
