Our very own student golfer Harry Hall (West Cornwall) and David Wicks of Sussex will represent England in the 2017 Jones Cup Invitational in the USA.

It’s been a good month or so for Harry Hall (West Cornwall). On the back of selection for the 2017 England Mens squad, ‘H’ has now been named as one of two Englishmen to represent the country in the 54 hole individual strokeplay Jones Cup event which takes place in Georgia, USA over three days from February 3^rd next year. Currently studying at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Hall’s pedigree continues to rise.

Recently the 19 year old took part in two stages of qualifying for a full PGA tour event, the Shriners Hospital for Children Open. In stage one qualifying Hall led the field with a stunning 9 under par 63, which included 7 birdies and an eagle. At the second stage he was unlucky not to be one of the qualifiers for the tournament proper after shooting a 4 under par score of 68.

First contested in 2001, the Jones Cup began as an opportunity to celebrate not only the game of golf, but also the camaraderie and fellowship associated with it. The event is played at Ocean Forest Golf Club, a Rees Jones design which opened in 1995, and hosted the 2001 Walker Cup Match. The Jones Cup brings together many of the finest amateurs from the United States and abroad for the three day competition. While the golf course proves to be a great venue for this unique event, the Jones Cup's success and popularity can be attributed to the strength of the players who comprise its field. Past participants include a number of current PGA Tour and Ryder Cup stars such as Luke Donald, Rickie Fowler, Lucas Glover, Dustin Johnson, Chris Kirk, Jeff Overton, Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker, Bubba Watson, Gary Woodland and Frenchman Victor Dubuisson. Past winners include DJ Trahan, Luke List, Kyle Stanley, and Patrick ‘ssshhhhh’ Reed.

Joining Harry as English representative will be David Wicks (Sussex) who like Harry is at College in the States.
