Truro are A Team Club Champions

Monday 23rd May 2016

Truro GC became A Team Club Champions on the final day of County Week 2016 at Newquay GC when they beat Trevose in a closely contested final, which was decided at the second extra hole.

In the decider the Truro pairing, of CGU County Captain David Kneebone playing with Joe Reynard, triumphed when their opponents, Niall Hutton and Ben Browning, were unable to recover from a poor tee shot at Newquay's par 3 second hole.

After a fine 2.5–0.5 semi-final win over St Mellion earlier in the day, Truro faced Trevose GC, who had beaten host club Newquay in their morning semi.

Paul Suddes and Matt Gunn lost the first of the final's three matches by 2&1, bu this was cancelled out when the young team of Jared Mortimore and Jamie Crocker had a brilliant 5&3 win to level the tie.

And so it came down to Kneebone and Reynard to try and seal the match. After a half at the 19th hole they were able to claim the victory at the next. Well done to them and well played Trevose.

Trevose: Ben Browning, Niall Hutton, Cary Clark, Carl Burley, Steve Davies and Graham Hawking.

It proved a good week for Truro GC with some fine individual performances. Arguably the best of these came from club regular and A team winning Paul Suddes (pictured above) who claimed the Handicap Cup based on his nett scores (69 + 70) in the Amateur Championship qualifier played on Wednesday.
