West of England Strokeplay Championship Fri 22nd - Sun 24th April 2016 Royal North Devon GC

Bude & N Cornwall's county team member Ryan Curtis - pictured above - put in a good performance to eventually finish in 20th place at the prestigious West of England Championship staged over four rounds and three days on the links at Royal North Devon GC, Westward Ho!

Hopes were high for 22 year old Ryan, (who is the elder brother of former Cornwall County player Adam, now training to be a PGA Professional attached to Bude), after he returned a first round 2 under par 70 to find himself in second place in a 131 man field studded with high ranking English amateurs. He followed a level par outward 9 with a two under back nine holes which included four birdies. Curtis was one of five Cornish based players in the event and was the only one of them to make the cut which came after round two for the top 40 and ties.

In round 2 Curtis shot a 76 and this was to become a familiar number for him as rounds 3 and 4 saw him shoot the same score finishing the tournament at 10 over par.

Runaway winner of the event was Somerset's Josh Hilleard, who was the only other player to shoot 70 on day one. He followed this with excellent rounds of 68, 71 and 69 to finish on 10 under, 8 shots clear of second placed Cameron Lang (Burton on Trent).

Other Cornish scores:

Conor Wilson (Perranporth) 80,72 - missed cut by one shot

Rob MacGregor (Tehidy Park) 81,73 - missed cut

Jared Mortimore (Truro) 83,80 - missed cut

Alex McHugh (Mullion) 77,86 - missed cut
