Founders Cup Friday 22nd May 2015 Bude & North Cornwall GC
Joe Durkin from Mullion GC made the longest journey across the county to take part in the Founders Cup at Bude & North Cornwall GC on the Friday of County Week 2015. The journey was well worthwhile though for Joe as he came home first in the stableford event with 39 points off his 9 handicap to claim victory by just the one point from runner up Steve Buse (St Enodoc) on 38.
Durkin compiled halves of 20 and 19 points with three gross birdies and 7 pars combining for his winning total. Buse made 9 pars and 4 birdies in halves of 20 and 18 and this included a 3, 4 finish on holes 17 and 18.
Third place went to Bude's young starlet Adam Curtis who, whilst also on 38 points, almost played an exemplary round of golf. His front 9 holes were made up of 7 pars, one birdie and an eagle 3 at the 9th. A further 3 birdies followed on the back 9 together with 5 pars but the blemish 6 on the 11th after missing the green right into deep rough meant he just missed out.
Fourth place went to County team member Joe Cruse (St Enodoc) on 37 whilst fellow county player Matt Richards (West Cornwall) finished fifth on 36. Sixth place in the Founders cup was taken by Paul Clahane (Trevose 36 points), who had the consolation of winning the Seniors Cup which ran in tandem with the Founders competition - see separate report.
