Western Morning News Challenge Cup Thursday 21st May 2015 Bude & North Cornwall GC
Carlyon Bay stalwart Tom Crocker again got his hands on the Western Morning News Challenge Cup on Thursday 21st May during County Week at Bude & North Cornwall GC. This trophy seems of late to be the domain of Carlyon Bay as the 2013 winner was Pat Coombe from the same club.
Crocker, who won the trophy at St Enodoc in 2012, this time returned a nett 71 (82-11) to win on countback from the host club's Daryl Troop (78-7) on countback. Despite an opening double bogey with a treble at the third, he birdied the 9th, 13th and 14th holes to come home in 38 shots to head the field of 42 competitors.
Troop who opened with a birdie 3 had two halves of 39 but it was probably the double bogey at the 6th which cost him.
Third place, again on countback went to Mark Stevenson (Truro 78-7), just pipping another Cralyon Bay member John Alton (81-9) on nett 72.
