Course Rating Volunteers Feb 2015

Have you ever wondered how a Standard Scratch Score is allocated to a course? Well now could be your chance to find out and to become involved in the process!

England Golf’s Course Rating Team in Cornwall is looking for volunteers to act as Assistant Raters.

We are looking for golfers, both men and women, from across the county to join the team that will assess each course to provide a rating from which their SSS will be allocated.  A rating is an objective process based on the length of a hole, the distance of obstacles such as trees, water and out of bounds from the line of play and other variables such as elevation changes, dog-legs and bunkering.  As an Assistant Rater you will spend most of your time taking measurements and therefore these positions are suitable for both the experienced golfer and novice alike.

The current rating cycle is a 10-year period (2014-2023) and, in Cornwall, will require us to rate 3 or 4 courses between April and October each year.  A rating takes between three and five hours depending upon how many sets of tees have to be rated.  Like many things in amateur golf these positions are unpaid but travelling expenses (currently 25p per mile) and subsistence are paid.

If you are interested in helping in this process please pass your details to one of the following as soon as possible:
